3. Bring food from home.<\/strong><\/h4>\n
<\/div>\nAlthough the accessibility to Halal food in Hong Kong has increased over recent years, it is still quite difficult to find Halal food (and even more so for Halal Hong Kong food). It really depends on where you plan to stay. As we were travelling with three young kids, food had to be readily available at any time. The solution: We brought lots of pre-cooked or easy-to-cook food. A portable electric pot and a small rice cooker came along with us too!<\/p>\n
Here is a list of food \/ things you may want to pack:<\/p>\n

- instant noodles, cup noodles, instant porridge<\/li>\n
- canned food (e.g. canned curry, canned tuna, baked beans, corned beef, canned pasta sauce)<\/li>\n
- bread (sliced white bread and various flavoured bread from Swee Heng)<\/li>\n
- jams and spreads<\/li>\n
- finger food \/ fried food (e.g. chicken nuggets, curry puffs, chicken popcorn, instant roti prata<\/em>)<\/li>\n
- small bottle of cooking oil<\/li>\n
- portable electric pot and a small rice cooker<\/li>\n
- forks, spoons, bowls, paper plates, cooking utensils, knives, empty plastic containers<\/li>\n
- IMPORTANT: <\/strong>chili sauce, fresh chili, sambal\u00a0<\/em>(a type of chili paste),\u00a0bawang goreng\u00a0<\/em>(fried scallion; a common garnish in Malay food), etc. (We made the mistake of not bringing any chili sauce to a city where it is uncommon to eat food with chili.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

One of the Halal milk brands we could find at the supermarket. Harvey Fresh is another Halal milk brand.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Supermarkets are good for stocking up on bread, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, cereal, beverages and bottled water. Buying instant noodles and snacks can be quite tricky, however. We could only find a few options that were Halal (e.g. Samyang Korean Spicy Noodles<\/a>).<\/p>\n
Not sure if what you picked off from the shelf is Halal? This food preservatives and additives listing<\/a> by Singapore’s Islamic authority, Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS; or also known as the Islamic Religious Council in Singapore), proved to be very useful in identifying whether a particular ingredient is Halal or Syubhah<\/em> (doubtful; those in the orange rows are as such).<\/p>\n

Hong Kong Disneyland (Fusion by ParkNShop)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Travelling to a supermarket meant travelling out of the island and therefore, the journey can be quite troublesome. If you will be residing at Hong Kong Disneyland…<\/p>\n

Just one MTR station away, another Fusion outlet is accessible by Admiralty MTR Station. An added bonus is that the supermarket is located in a shopping mall, United Centre, so you can do some shopping there too.<\/p>\n

5. WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE WEATHER<\/h4>\n
Temperatures were hovering around 22\u00b0C to 25\u00b0C when the Halal Ke team visited Hong Kong. We thought it would be a drastic difference compared to the additional 10\u00b0C we usually get here in Singapore and Malaysia. “Long sleeved cotton t-shirts, long pants, socks and covered shoes should do the trick,” we thought. But guess what? We were perspiring!<\/p>\n
Hence, our advice is to just wear what you usually wear in the lands of the
rising<\/del> blistering sun or opt for lighter, more cooling fabrics such as linen and rayon.<\/p>\nOnly when temperatures drop below 20\u00b0C, do we advise donning warmer clothes.<\/p>\n
