Sambal Goreng Pengantin

@Makbibik has gained much fanfare over its super popular Sambal Goreng Pengantin and now we know why!

The heirloom recipe of making this Sambal Goreng Pengantin has been passed down from one generation to another, retaining its wonderful flavours and textures of this Javanese heritage staple.

Although SGP is typically consumed only during festivities largely in Malay communities in Singapore, Makbibik’s SGP is definitely worth indulging anytime throughout the year!

One bite into Makbibik’s SGP is all it takes to bring you back to when your grandmother cooks up a storm on the morning of Eid/Hari Raya. The wonderful sizzling aroma of spices including lemongrass, galangal, garlic, ginger, onions, belachan, tamarind and chillies would waft through every room in the house. You’d make your way to the kitchen to take a peek to the SGP that’s been cooked using only the freshest and premium ingredients including Beef, Prawns, Tempe (fermented soy bean), lung and liver. That’s exactly what you get from Makbibik too!

Obviously a lot of work goes into making the Sambal Goreng Pengantin. A lot of ingredients, patience and steps are involved and yet, the end result is so satisfying! Because the Rempah or spice mix used is complex, there are many elements of flavours that interplays in this dish. Rich in spices, you also appreciate the different layers of sweet, spicy, salty in a rich combo of meat, protein and veggies.

Top the plate with lots of soft fragrant lontong rice cakes with a generous topping of slightly charred serunding (sauteed grated coconut floss), Makbibik’s SGP dish truly hits the homerun. Indeed, this Sambal Goreng Pengantin is our new favourite must-have staple!
